Pike Place Market

Notably one of the most famous markets in the world, The Seattle Pike Place Market is one of the city’s top destinations. I’ve always wanted to see this place and now that I’m here it’s every bit a wonder as what I imagined it to be. Being around for over 100 years now this place has been feeding the city forever.

Hosting different purveyors from around the region and more the market is synonymous to Seattle’s culture as grunge music is. This was a fascinating site to behold as seeing the sign made me feel that finally I am in Seattle.

The very first Starbucks can also be found in this location which opened in 1976 commonly called the original Starbucks. This is their 2nd location because the very first one opened in1971 at 2000 Western Avenue up until 1976 when it moved here to 1912 Pike Place. The store had a long line to get in, about a 15-minute wait to get in but for collectors the memorabilia here is quite nice. I patiently waited to get in and had my signature green tea matcha and also bought a souvenir mug of their “Been There” series reflecting pike place market.

Post Alley is a block above the pike place market which also hosts some of the best restaurants available in the market area. The Pike Place Chowder caught my attention and I wanted to try it. Winning numerous awards in chowder competitions in New England is a must try according to my local friends. Opting for something a bit more Seattle I got the Smoked Salmon Chowder with capers and cream cheese. This smoked salmon chowder bowl was interesting with unique flavors and distinct NW taste.

After lunch I headed down to the wharf area past Miners landing and took the ferry to Bainbridge Island which is one of the state’s hidden gems. I had a flight of wine tasting of local grapes from Eleven Winery and passed by the gift shops in the downtown area. On my way back to my last destination I had to try the local favorite Piroshky from the Piroshky Bakery and the smoked salmon piroshky was my favorite.

Thank you, Seattle, for giving me an awesome first day and I cannot wait for what’s in store next…
