Jim’s South St. Steaks & Hoagies

Philadelphia Cheesesteak is synonymous to Philly life as is the Eagles or Phillies and from my first attempt I’m ready for my second initiation. My friends have told me that Jim’s South Street is where I should head over next.

I spent this Friday morning taking the sights of this wonderful city starting with the City Hall. Such an amazing structure and you can feel its presence grasping through the city center. I walked down from Love Park along Race Street and made my way to the world-famous Rocky Balboa structure which I’ve been longing to see for quite some time now.

I must admit that Philadelphia is probably in the top 5 most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen and for me rivals Milano in Italy. The city is a lot cleaner and safer than I anticipated and the people were quite friendly and helpful. From the Museum of Art or aka the famous rocky steps I made my way to the south side and decided to have a bit of a walk before I had my lunch. I stopped over at Spruce Street Harbor Park to walk around the docks to build my appetite. The boardwalk was nicely re developed and the sea breeze from Lake Delaware offered a quick reprieve from the scorching heat.

As the afternoon sun slowly rises even more, I find that it’s time to make my way to Jim’s famous cheesesteak on South Street. The queue was quite long when I arrived but moving steadily the aroma of the sizzling beef and melted cheese filled the main entrance. I was so hungry by the time they took my order and opted for a Philly cheesesteak of course and a can of becks to wash the sandwich down. I can now understand why they call it the world’s famous cheesesteak because it was damn good…

They only use USDA CHOICE Pureland Authentic Black Angus Beef for their meat selection and this is what separates the boys from the men. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and if I would have gone for more but I was so full after 1 order.

This was indeed a uniquely Philadelphian experience that now I can happily cross out from my bucket list…

#KULINARYATRAVELS is back next week with Chef Lou of Perla as we share a Kamayan meal and hear his thoughts out about Philippine cuisine…
