Smith & Wollensky

NYC

After a trip from Brooklyn and watching the Roadrunner movie about the life of Chef Anthony Bourdain I felt the need to reflect and think about my life and career as well. I took the L train back to the LES and got off at the 1st Ave stop and took the M15-SBS bus up town and got off at Mitchell place.

I’ve been waiting for this film to come out for a while now and it was not quite what I expected it to be. I started walking up 49th Street to 3rd Ave and found my way to Smith and Wollensky steakhouse which has been on my radar for quite some time now. Having been previously open for over 100 years now when it was still called Manny Wolf’s before, this place is known for real quality meat.

I got in at around 6:30 which gave me some time to sit at the bar and gather my thoughts as my head was still buzzing after the film. The hostess was kind in greeting me and leading me to the bar while I spoke to the bartender. The place was full even for a Tuesday evening and the dining room was so vibrant. My colleague arrived shortly after, and we were brought to our table which was near the kitchen much to my liking. It was so nice to see the carts come and go bringing dishes and desserts that reminded me of pre covid times.

The oysters were nice and fresh and for me is always the best way to start the meal.

We were handed the menu and wine list and some bread and butter shortly after. I could see all the plates of beef and chops coming out from the kitchen making me us even hungrier. I started with a glass of Quattro Mani and a dozen oysters for us to share as our appetizer.

Our server offered us the soft-shell crab special, and it was a smart choice to get it. Simple old bay spiced and served with a side of horse radish mayo the crab was gone in 4 bites ☺.

The time has come for our entrée portion, and I opted for the prime rib while my colleague got the bone in ribeye, both cooked medium rare of course. For sides we got the garlic spinach and the whipped potatoes which were perfect companions of the massive beef.

The Prime Rib was so good, perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful

The Rib Eye had a perfect seared crust.

I wish I could eat more than 1 piece of steak so I can try more items but as I was finishing up my prime rib, I was way too full already, in a good way of course. NYC Steakhouses are here for a reason, and I am so happy that I was able to have a meal here…
