Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken
It’s now my secnd day here in Atlanta and judging by how much fun I had yesterday I am so excited for today. First stop for today was to visit the city landmark of Dr. Martin Luther King National Historical Park located at 450 Auburn Avenue near his old home. This playing a big role here in the city for his stature as one of America’s icons. The Martin Luther King center for non-violence is located here and is the site of his resting tomb as well.
There is also the Dr. King Community center where the youth are allowed to participate in events and be part of the community. His birthplace just located a block north is the home where he was born and grew up preserved by the city. The adjacent property has been turned into a gift shop where souvenirs and historical artifacts are being sold. The whole part of this town has been dedicated to his memory and there is also an eternal flame lit in his honor.
After visiting Dr. King’s memory, I was ready for my 1st Atlanta fried chicken and Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken was my destination. Located at the Mall at 231 Peachtree ST NW, I was ready for it.
I ordered the 3-piece dark meat combo with 2 thighs and a leg with a side of beans and coleslaw. The chicken was fried in peanut oil which can tolerate higher temperatures that made the chicken extra crispy. The spice rub was really good, and the chicken was nice and crisp but juicy and soft on the inside.
If this was the benchmark, then the rest have their work cut out for them as now I can understand why Gus fried chicken is world famous.
