Local Tide

My 2nd day here in Seattle is off to a good start as the sun is out again today. Yesterday was nice to see some sights and get a feel of the city. I never knew that Seattle had so many similarities to San Francisco being hilly and weather wise as well. The Pacific North-West is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The seafood here is quite abundant and is embedded in the city’s culture.

Fremont is a nice suburb on the north side of Seattle known for their counterculture attitude. Situated at the north side of the Lake it is home to many interesting restaurants.

Local Tide being one of the more popular destinations in the area. Created by Chef/Owner Victor Steinbrueck they served traditional Seattle cuisine. The space located at 401 N 36TH Street is known for keeping the food simple and letting the ingredients do the talking.

As I arrived at Local tide from my walk around the neighborhood and getting a souvenir from Destee Nation Shirts, I was surprised to see the place quite full already as they opened their doors. I spoke to Nenette, their amazing cashier/manager who was so helpful with all my questions.

She suggested that I started with the Rock Fish Banh Mi which was excellent. The rock fish patty was seasoned well and the maggi aioli complimented the pickles, herbs and chili that dressed the sandwich.

The second item I tried was the Dover nuggets which were equally fantastic as well. The batter was light enough, yet the crispiness was there with the perfect crunch. The house made tartar sauce was a great companion to the nuggets and gave it an even more local flavor.

Thank you to Chef Victor, Nenette and everyone at Local Tide for the amazing meal and great hospitality. I will be back soon enough…
