St. Ambroeus

NYC

It’s a sunny Thursday afternoon here in New York City and 4th of July is just over the weekend. You can feel the excitement of people as they start to pack their weekend bags for a trip outside the city.

For me though before I head out to visit my family in upstate, I have 1 more place to visit and this is no ordinary place. Sant Ambroeus at its 265 Lafayette Street location has been serving modern Milanese style cuisine to the SOHO neighborhood.

Being based in Italy before I somewhat consider the country a home away from home and the cuisine close to my heart. Here at St. Ambroeus the menu allows the guests a contemporary interpretation of traditional Milanese cuisine, as well as its branded hospitality in a chic and vibrant atmosphere. Shortly after the original location opened its doors in Milan in 1936 several outposts have followed across the Atlantic with now having 5 different locations around New York. Remaining true to their Milanese origins and the use of only high quality sustainable ingredients Sant Ambroeus has now become a neighborhood landmark to the local residents.

This being my first time to be able to visit the restaurant I was so eager to see the place and try the dishes. As soon as I arrived around 3 pm I was immediately greeted by the hostess and seated at my preferred area. The vibe was so Milano, hip and chic and the aroma of coffee and cheese floating around the air.

Fresh toasted bread and olive oil was served to start the meal along with my favorite beverage from Italy, Chinotto.

BURRATA.jpg

Burrata and prosciutto is how I started my meal today and it could not have been any better. The burrata was nice and creamy while the prosciutto was perfectly sliced thin with the right amount of fat.

As I went through my antipasti my secondi just made its way to the table and man was I happy to see it.

CACIO-E-PEPE.jpg

Linguine cacio e pepe is one of my favorite dishes of all time. The balance of pecorino and pepper is just marvelous to me. The pasta was al dente and the sauce coated evenly.

Leaving this place without having dessert would be a crime so I had the Sant Ambroeus which is a light chocolate mousse cake topped with chocolate granules and caramelized cocoa nibs.

This meal has transported me back in time and taken me to Milano. All I need is my Vespa and I’m off to the Duomo, CIAO…
