Drunken Munkey

NYC

It’s Tuesday afternoon here in NYC and a scorching hot summer day with temperature rising to 90 degrees. After having my Chinese fix yesterday my palette was craving for something new, something exciting.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’ve tried some Indian cuisine and I felt like today that should change. The Drunken Munkey located at 338E 92nd Street suddenly came to mind. I called up the place and was advised to make a reservation through their Yelp page as the place gets quickly packed every day.

I got in around 6 pm and luckily, I still had some time to take some photos of the space before the captain ushered me to my table outside. The outdoor barrier was nicely constructed and near the monkey waiter statue that has become a symbol of this establishment. I guess some refreshments were in order before we begun our meal on this hot summer night. The bramble is what I opted first served with ford’s gin, muddle blueberries, blueberry liqueur and fresh lemon juice. This was a very nice, clean and refreshing beverage with various layers of color and flavor, a perfect way to start my meal.

TANDOORI-TIGER-PRAWNS.jpg

First on the menu was the Tandoori tiger prawns with hung yogurt and black mustard seeds. This was phenomenal as the tiger prawns had a nice smokiness to it.

Second to arrive was the Lamb Skekh Kababs which were perfectly spiced and cooked in the tandoori oven. This dish has become a favorite of mine every time I dine at an Indian restaurant. There is just something about spiced smoked lamb that appeals …

There is just something about spiced smoked lamb that appeals to me, especially if it’s dipped in either tamarind chutney or mint chutney.

THUMBNAIL-CHICKEN-TIKKA-MASALA.jpg

It was time for the main course and my butter chicken tikka masala with garlic naan arrived at the table. The dish looked so bright and colorful and the ghee rice gave it a nice balance. The garlic naan was to die for, dipped in the tikka masala sauce it was phenomenal. I could seriously eat this dish everyday if I had to.

For dessert they brought me the Rum and Chocolate Cricket Ball which was rich and decadent, a perfect way to end the meal washed down with some Munkey PAAANCH… ☺
