Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
It was a fun night out last night at American Airlines Arena as I watched the Miami Heat play basketball live for the first time. After a night out in the stadium we figured that the best way to start Tuesday afternoon was a trip to South Beach for some tacos.
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila located at 1220 16th St has been on my list of places to visit for quite some time now and I was arriving here hungry. As we found parking around the block and slowly made our way down the street the vibrant colors of the place stood out. It had a bright pink colored wall and glowing red sign that signaled you are about to enter a TAQUERIA…
We ordered a few items of the menu and started with guacamole and chips which were nicely done as the chips were seasoned and crisp while the guacamole had some nice chunks to it. Being in a Mexican restaurant and feeling festive I opted to try the frozen mango margarita with red bull and it was a perfect refreshment for this warm and sunny afternoon.
Next to arrive was my birria short rib tacos and being not too familiar with this new style with a crispy shell that is being dunked in a red sauce was surprisingly good.
Birria tacos become a crazy in Brooklyn when a food truck with the same name set up a location in Brooklyn and just started flooding social media feeds. If this was an indication of how good this thing is then I will be definitely be joining the band wagon and eating more tacos now.
My barbacoa and carne asada tacos came in next and my “old favorites” always is a home run anywhere I go. The barbacoa had a nice depth of smokiness to it while the carne asada was so tender and flavorful that I almost ordered another round.
I couldn’t leave this place without having dessert of course and who wouldn’t eat a paleta in Miami on a warm afternoon. The expediter offered me a coconut paleta and this reminded me why I miss this dessert so much.
It had nice chunks of coconut and immediately I remembered the last time I had one was when I was in Bali back in January 2018. It’s always nice when food transports you back to some fond memories of previous travels as flavors can also be like old photos that get stuck in your head and are triggered back when a similar experience occurs. For now I will be dreaming of more tacos and will be trying more Birria for sure…
For the conclusion of #KULINARYATRAVELS Miami Series we head to Calle Ocho for some Thai Tapas..
